This video is extremely powerful and very appropriate for Memorial Day - it will only take 5 minutes of your time. I apologize for the ads at the beginning, and have tried unsuccessfully to turn them off, so just click the X to make them disappear - thankfully there are only a couple. If you go to full screen, I don't think you'll see them.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend with your family and friends.  MWF

Subject: Proper Display of the United States Flag
To: loumicsm@yahoo.com

There can be confusion and questions about how to properly wear and display the American flag, especially around the summer holidays of Memorial Day and July 4th when many people want to display a flag.
Here is what the law says about using the American flag properly (PDF):
·        The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water or merchandise.
·        The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free.
·        No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.
·        The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying or delivering anything.
·        The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
·        The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat.
Read more rules and regulations that govern flag display (PDF) which is attached.  This attachment is the official U.S. Flag Manual.

From Dan Adkins,

This is our second year doing this and the proceeds will go to Soldiers and Families First, a Nevada organization who mainly help those guard and reserve people deployed and are struggling to make ends meet.  Here is their website ….  http://soldiersandfamiliesfirst.org/   Also a facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Soldiers-And-Families-First/148943188531704

Included as an attachment is the flyer so you can pass it on to your members.

We plan on a good crowd and Bruce Russell will have the DJ setup and some of his entertainer friends will perform from about noon until 4PM.  At 4PM we will have a live band in the parking lot.  There will be plenty of nice raffle prizes including a nice TV donated by a local furniture store being among the prizes.  At 4PM there will be a BBQ dinner of smoked Pork I'm doing overnight with all the trimmings.

Thanks for your help,
Dan Adkins,

Subject: FW: NSVH / NNVH May 8, 2014 Room Test Release
Date: Mon, 5 May 2014 14:07:00 -0400

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS) will test the first room design for the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home (NNSVH) project on May 8, 2014. The room test will be conducted at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City beginning at 9am with an actual room setup where the public and residents will be able to test room features for the proposed NNSVH.

"We've been working with the architect and nursing home consultants to include up to date design innovations for nursing homes," says NDVS Director, Kat Miller.  "The room test will be an opportunity for staff and residents at the Boulder City home to give us suggestions on how the features of the proposed room functions."

The full-size room test is the next phase in preparation to demonstrate how the NNSVH will address aging veterans issues. The design has taken into consideration the spacing for wheel-chairs, and walkers, as well as the height of various switches to help prevent residents from over-extending.

"The test at the home in Boulder City will give us a hands on opportunity to see how a resident moves within the proposed space," says Miller. "From the space around the bed, corners of furniture and bathroom access are all part of what this room test will take into account.  With the help of the men and women who live in the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home, we will design the best possible home for veterans in Northern Nevada."

In addition to staff and residents, the general public is invited to view the room test beginning at 9am which will give family members the opportunity to see the proposed NNSVH room.  A future presentation is scheduled for Northern Nevada.  "From this test, we'll be able to incorporate suggestions and make adjustments," says Miller.  "Then we'll be planning a second presentation in Northern Nevada later this year."

Plans for the Northern Nevada Veterans Home will be part of the NDVS focus during the 78th Nevada State Legislature for consideration of funding.

Event information: May 8, 2014
