		Media Advisory: 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War

  

Fort Irwin is hosting the commemoration in partnership with the Marine Corp Logistics Base Barstow, the City of Barstow, the Barstow Veterans Home and numerous Veterans' organizations in southern California. The event is open to the public. The schedule is as follows:

Breakfast: Holiday Inn Express, Lenwood:                   7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

Parade at Fort Irwin:                                                     10:50 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Lunch with guest speaker:                                           11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Static displays, vendors & more:                                  1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The day includes a special guest concert by Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad from 3 – 4:30 p.m. Master of ceremonies for the event is Pat O’Brien, well-known author, radio host and sportscaster who covered six Olympic Games.

While neither one day, nor one event, can ever make up for the last 50 years, our desire is to show our Vietnam Veterans the gratitude and appreciation we have for them and their families and that we are a grateful nation. It is our hope that you will join us in giving them a day they will never forget. A day they should have received so many years ago.

Note: There will be approximately 400-motorcycles leaving Barstow at 8 a.m. en route to Fort Irwin in a procession prior to the parade.
