Vietnam War Commemoration

Vietnam War Commemoration “SITREP” – 2015, Issue 7 Thursday, July 02
The United States of America Congressional Ceremony
Date: July 8, 2015
Time: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. EDT
Purpose: Thank & honor our 7.2 million living Vietnam veterans and the 9 million families of those who served.
Internet Link: Will be provided via a separate email one day prior to the ceremony.
Dear Commemorative Partners
The Congressional Ceremony is right around the corner! Just four days after we, as a nation, celebrate our independence, this milestone event will occur in the nation’s capital. Two weeks ago, we alerted you that the Office of the Speaker of the House issued a press release announcing a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. As a reminder, this ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in Emancipation Hall of the United States Capitol Visitor Center.
The ceremony is a ticketed event for Vietnam veterans and their families. While invitations have already been distributed, this event will be streamed live around the world from the Office of the Speaker of the House.
Join us via the Internet (see below)! Collaborate with other Commemorative Partners (CP) to make this a shared event in your hometowns. Invite Vietnam veterans and their families in your local communities to view this commemorative event together as our nation’s leaders thank and honor them for their service and sacrifice. Then, take time to honor them locally following the Congressional Ceremony.
To find other CPs in your area, click on: www.vietnamwar50th.com/partners/partner_map/. Zoom in to locate your state and city or town. Click on each pin to reveal the CP name and city. *Note – please consult your local white or yellow pages, or the Internet, to retrieve specific CP contact details.
We hope you will join us online as Congress thanks and honors our 7.2 million living Vietnam veterans and the 9 million families of those who served from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975! Thank you!

DOL-VETS Announces $35 Million in HVRP Grants to Assist 16,000 Homeless Vets
Grant awards to organizations across the country to help veterans overcome homelessness, secure employment
WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez announced today the award of more than $35 million in grants to provide an estimated 16,000 veterans with job-driven training for in-demand jobs to help them successfully transition from homelessness to sustainable housing and good civilian jobs.
"In cities like Salt Lake City, Houston and Phoenix, through partnerships and the aggressive delivery of supportive services, we have shown that veteran homelessness is not a reality we have to accept," said U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez. "The Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program has proven time and again that it can be effective in helping veterans overcome obstacles to employment and sustainable housing, and they deserve nothing less."
The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program is awarding funds competitively to state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, and tribal governments, including faith-based and community organizations. Homeless veterans may receive occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services. HVRP is the only federal program that focuses exclusively on employment of veterans who are homeless.
Grantees in the HVRP program network coordinate their efforts with various local, state and federal social service providers. To learn more about the U.S. Department of Labor's unemployment and re-employment programs for veterans, visit www.dol.gov/vets. For more information on this grant announcement, please contact the department's Cassandra Mitchell at 202-693-4589.
