Dear Mr. Small,
It was nice speaking with you this morning.  Thank you for your service to our country that has benefited all of us.
As I mentioned, Im working with Dan Hart and Associates, to improve timely medical care for veterans in the VA hospitals nationwide.
We are helping the VHA with a proposal which will improve wait times veterans are having to endure to receive medical care in VA hospitals. The proposal will change the VA's nursing handbook to state Advanced Pratice Registered Nurses (APRN)'s are allowed to provide full practice care.
APRNs are registered nurses with advanced education and clinical expertise. A graduate degree is required for their practice. There are currently 5,000 APRNs already providing care for our veterans in the VHA system. The Department of Defense currently recognizes APRNs as full practicioners. Expanding the pool of full practice providers to include APRNs would be part of the solution to improving care for our veterans and alleviating the serious delays that have become the status quo.  Veterans have been suffering on wait lists, as they urgently need medical attention. With over 1,700 facilities where 8.76 million veterans receive care annually, the scale of this problem is enormous.
I have attached a sample letter and an outline of the proposal which I will distribute to veterans at an upcoming veteran club meeting in Summerlin, in case it's helpful.
Would you be willing to support this proposal by writing a short letter including the type of U.S. Veteran and rank you have achieved and noting any experience you may have had with the VA hospitals and care. If you are short on time, I am available to help you draft a letter for your review.
Thank you for your time and your service to our country.
